Why Choose MDF Cabinet Doors?

What even are MDF cabinet doors? MDF stands for medium density fiberboard. Essentially wood fibers are combined with resins and wax to create an engineered wood product that stands stronger than both particle board and plywood. While its been regarded for sometime that MDF doors are for a cheaper price point, it turns out MDF actually has some advantages over solid wood:

  1. There are fewer warping or cracking issues with MDF cabinet doors.
    1. Changing humidity and temperature levels can be an issue for natural wood products, cabinetry included. MDF is a great option for extreme climates as you’ll rarely experience an issue with door damage.
  2. No grain.
    1. MDF offers an incredibly smooth surface that is perfect for painting.
  3. MDF doors are easier to customize.
    1. Natural wood does have some limits when it comes to customization. However since MDF is a man made material it can be shaped much easier.
  4. Moisture resistance
    1. MDF is inherently more moisture resistant than natural wood. Beyond that there are certain brands like our own Holiday Kitchens, that are engineering MDF cabinet doors that are even more moisture resistant.
  5. MDF doors can be made bigger
    1. Since MDF isn’t a natural product you eliminate the need for joints or potential weak spots. This allows for the cabinet maker to make much larger doors.
  6. The cost of MDF cabinet doors is cheaper
    1. As you can imagine, this man made product can offer significant savings. Opting for MDF over something like a paint-grade maple can save you money and look just as striking.
  7. It’s environmentally friendly
    1. Choosing MDF means choosing a recycled wood product.
  8. Less bugs
    1. Natural wood products tend to attract bugs along with other things in your kitchen. Choosing MDF could help you win the war against roaches or other creepy crawlies
